Hip Artist Real Smokesta Admits Not Recording Music During Football Season

For many years professional football much like basketball and baseball is a sport that people from all over the world come together to watch and cheer for their favorite teams. The sport of football for some is just a hobby but true football fans see the sport as their peace, their time with fellow game lovers and sometimes even a family event.

When a city is a home of a professional football team, those who live in that city become fans and represent that team through the ups and downs. Although not everyone in that city might not cheer for their towns football team, it’s safe to say that if you love the sport, you and other fans have something in common.

Texas rapper Real Smokesta knows all too well what being a football fan is all about. When you talk about Texas football, you are talking about the Dallas Cowboys and/or the Houston Texans. These are teams that we watched faithfully every season and to add more football to the list, Real Smokesta is a die-hard Florida State Seminoles fan and makes it his business to never miss a game.

Musically he schedules how he records and releases music around football season. His albums are released in the fall since football season starts in the fall and because of that all his music is recorded during the spring. This is what you truly call a die-hard football fan. For Real Smokesta its deeper than that and if you ask him why, he will tell you “It’s the only time of the year I find peace outside of me being an artist. I get to be a fan of something that isn’t a fan of me and that gives me balance”.

Texas Rapper Real Smokesta On Why It’s Business Over Hanging Out With Other Rappers

I never really hang out with other artists. People probably think I’m weird or anti social.Like I’m not trying to be friends with everybody I run across and they’re not trying to be friends with me.That would be hundreds of people. So it’s understood.I don’t care about the after party or none of that. My thing has always been to be cool with the people that make things go. Like the PR’s, the bloggers, the radio directors, the djs, the managers , the club promoters etc…those are the people that play a key role in my development and progress. All artists need these people so why would I hang with artists ? Things could possibly change down the road but for now I’m cool with just taking care of business and business is cool with taking care of me.

Adoption Gave Texas Rapper Real Smokesta A New Identity

Born Carl Lee Hendricks in Taylor, Texas came into this world born to a 15 year old teenager. Common now but wasn't so common in the late 70's.

At the age of 6 years old he was taken into child protective custody and placed in numerous foster homes. By the age of 8 years old he was adopted.

His adopted parents kept his first name Carl to not confuse him at a young age. This where it gets interesting.

One day he approached his new Mother as she was doing laundry and asked her a question that would forever change his name.

"So why don't you have any biological kids?" he asked.

Not something a typical kid ask right?

His Mother looked as if she knew one day this question would come and as curious as he looked how could you not be truthful?

She had no other children because she couldn't have none. She carried one time only to have a miscarriage.

"Mom what does miscarriage mean?" he asked.

"He didn't make it" she softly explains.

Trying to cheer up his Mom he then asked, "Well you said he so what was his name going to be?"

She then said "Michael".

For 20 seconds it was silent. Then the young Carl spoke, "Change my name to Michael. Michael is who I am".

The young kid got his wish. Today Real Smokesta has two son's... also name Michael.

Real Smokesta On Collaborating With R&B Sensation El Debarge Jr

Friend and business partner Dookie Blu ( Tony Nora) introduced Real Smokesta to El Debarge Jr 5 years ago while both were on a recording session trip in LA with producer Duane Da Rock. He insisted they should collaborate in the future.

"When I came up with the hook for "It's Your Time" I sent it to my label (Thug World South), Q Bosilini praised it but also said there was something missing" recalls Real Smokesta.

He told him he could hear someone singing on it. He agreed.

"I thought about what Dookie told me years ago" says Real Smokesta.

So Real Smokesta reached out to El Debarge Jr. Gave him the concept and they went to work.

The next day El Jr called him letting him know he recorded a rough draft from his home studio and wanted Real Smokesta's approval before he recorded in the studio with his engineer. It was sensational and Real Smokesta was impressed. El Debarge Jr actually thought Smokesta was in LA and was going to arrive in person for a live studio session but he was in Texas.

Which was right on time when he sent the final session because Real Smokesta was booked with Clinton Walker for a studio session in Texas.

"Got with my engineer and we just got creative with his voice" says Real Smokesta.

The chorus now had soul in it. The idea of bringing El Debarge Jr on the record paid off. It's Your Time was right on time.

In life you never know what to expect or what card you are dealt. Sometimes you find yourself growing up at a young age. Very seldom would anyone in their teenage years would choose to be an adult and live life on their own. Those who are forced experience real life like a front row seat to a movie.
